ARTBAR on Tuesday 20th May is artist fabricator, Steve Haines

Having worked with Anthony Gormley, David Mach, Marc Quinn, Martin Creed, Paul McCarthy, Ryan Gander, Yayoi Kusama, Mak Wallinger and Iggy Pop! amongst others, Steve shall shed some light on the art world from the inside.

Marc Quinn

'Steve started his career as an artist in the 1970's leaving St Martin's sculpture department in 1977, practising as an artist, making sculpture and having shows. While continuing to make his own work people would always just keep asking him to help make work for them too. This eventually lead to working in the film and television industry for companies like Madame Tussauds and on shows such as Spitting Image and on films like Braveheart and Event Horizon with advertising campaigns for the likes of Levis, BMW and Nissan but always making sculpture.

Marc Quinn

Continuing with both threads throughout his career he has in recent years become better known for making work for other artists. In the 1990's when budgets in the contemporary art market were on the rise and artists started to sell work for larger and larger amounts of money, this inevitably lead to making work for artists now that they could afford his services. The art industry has now fundamentally changed and it has become the norm for artist's to routinely have work made for them. With his company 'Arteffects' he now makes work for a quite a number of them, making pieces for public commissions, collectors and gallery shows. Artists such as Anthony Gormley, David Mach, Marc Quinn, Martin Creed, Paul McCarthy, Ryan Gander, Yayoi Kusama, Mak Wallinger et al are his regular clients.'
